The nursery entertained many groups at the "Old Adobe" |
Estimated to have been built around 1840, it was used as a bunkhouse, home, storage and fumigation shed. At least two people were reported to have been born here. The property was originally part of Vallejo's Rancho de Alameda.
In 1974 Frances Roeding recounts how the adobe became the trademark of their nursery, the "Old Adobe". In the 1930's the adobe and its garden were transformed into a Guest Lodge and garden for entertaining. Fred Reimers transformed the adobe by putting in windows, and a tile floor. His father, Johannes Reimers, transformed the garden into a space for entertainment for groups, such as nurserymen, scouts, and garden clubs.
